What is Responsive Email Design?

Please note: all information articles are guidelines only. They are purely for reference purposes and may be changed or updated over time.

Similar to websites, HTML emails can also be responsive. This means the email will change size and shape according to the device it is being viewed on using something called media queries.

Most ‘regular’ HTML emails will simply be squashed to fit the viewing pane of a mobile device, for example. With responsive emails, the content will change to a more linear shape, keeping text at a more readable size and making for a much nicer viewing experience.

It should be noted that not all email clients support media queries and therefore responsive emails will not work everywhere. However, as time goes on, older clients are dropped and newer ones are created with media query support, support for responsive emails will increase.
